Do you feel like you are overbearing to others? Feel like you are just too much energy and you need to 'tone it down' so others won't feel uncomfortable?
How does that make you feel?
Rather, I will bargain to ask you why are you doing that to appease others when it isn't keeping you true to who you are?
Why do we try to avoid or escape the judgment from or of others by toning ourselves down?
Escaping the judgment from others takes work. Many times I had to 'tone it down'. The 'it' being my life. I felt like if I said what I really did in my life that people would judge me or shame me. I felt like I had to monitor my experiences so others wouldn't get jealous. I was truly trying to control other people's feelings at the sacrifice of not being myself. Wow. Hit the light switch on. And I had been doing this without even recognizing it for a long time.
Why would I do this? Well, I thought I was doing good by keeping everyone else comfortable. I thought my stories would make me seem arrogant, special, like I was something better. When really I was just me and truly wanting to share my life and experiences so others could have them too.
One can really struggle when trying to balance escaping judgement and just being true to who you really are. The judgment is always going to be there It can show up in forms of:
Being too much or not enough doesn't have to be the case. Make peace with who you are and show up, talk about it. Stop toning your life down for others and watch, you'll start to attract others that do want to be around, that want to hear your stories and be a part of your life in all the right ways.
